Elegoo Centauri Carbon Review: Does Its Price Compensate For Its Flaws?
Centauri Carbon

I bought this printer after I needed a cheap addition to my workforce of little badge holder makers. I saw the price tag on this thing and I could just not pass it up. $340 dollars for a fully enclosed printer? I could not believe this! It seemed too good to be true, but it had a 1 year Amazon return window, so I just had to buy it. As you can tell, I have impulse purchase problems. (ADHD much?) Now, after testing it for a while, I found that the printer definitely has its problems. Lets dive into this review!

Initial Thoughts

After (I tried) pulling this out of the box, I realized that that it was packed insanely well. This thing took forever to unpack. Eventually I got it unpacked. Everything seemed quality.

What’s In The Box

  • Bag of tools
  • The printer itself
  • Glass lid for the printer
  • Anti-Vibration feet (unnecessary and wobbly)
  • Extra filament

Printer Setup

It took about 1 hour to set up the printer. The printer was mostly put together, only requiring the screen and feet to be attached. The setup following assembly was extremely easy. I really did not expect to be able to walk away during setup. The only problem during setup was the banging on the sides. Now if you know anything about coreXY printing you would know that banging on the sides is normal. I, however, had no clue that was normal, so I talked to customer service (Sorry Elegoo customer service!) and they assured me it was normal.

First Print

My first print with this looked like a rats nest. My first complaint for this printer was how the manual never mentioned anything about calibrating the belts. Eventually I discovered that this was the problem. After tightening the belt, it printed like a dream.

Quality Of Machine

Overall, this machine is beautiful, and very well made. I would 100% buy this again.

Filament

Don’t use ABS in this printer. It just won’t work. However, PLA, as always prints beautifully.

Extra Features

It comes with a built in webcam for remote monitoring. I appreciate it but it’s nothing special.

Final Thoughts

The craftsmanship and features of this rival a BambuLab. This is 100 percent my new favorite machine. I recommend this machine to everyone who is fairly new to printing and has a little extra time to troubleshoot.

The Bambu Lab I’m referencing is the P1S. Get it here! It’s currently on sale for 479 dollars instead of previously 699!
